BCC Library Databases: Getting Started

If you know what subject your research topic falls under you can click on the Databases by Subject tab in the upper right side of the page to find the right database. If you are not sure, you can try:

• CREDO REFERENCE for quick encyclopedic information.
• ACADEMIC SEARCH COMPLETE for the most comprehensive, interdisciplinary resources.
• POINTS OF VIEW REFERENCE or SIRS RESEARCHER for pro and con topics.
• KANOPY for access to films and documentaries [ To Access Kanopy you must also create a personal Kanopy account for directions click here ]

SIGN UP FOR ACCESS TO NEW YORK TIMES!! 

Go to www.NYTimes.com/Pass and click on "Create Account". Please note: an @peralta.edu email address is required to successfully log-in. Click here for further information on creating an account with the NYT.

CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION NOW AVAILABLE

To access off site, go to Chronicle.com and click on the “Log In” link at top, right-hand side of the web page. Choose the “Create an account now” option. Enter and confirm your campus e-mail address, then follow the steps on the account set up page.

You can access electronic databases from off-campus with a username (your last name) and password (student ID number). Your student ID number can be found underneath the barcode on your student ID card.
Do NOT use your Passport username and password.
Only students registered for the current session will have access to the databases from off-campus.

TO ACCESS KANOPY

You must first create an account in Kanopy, then link your account to the library or libraries you are accessing the accounts from.

1. Go to www.kanopy.com/signup and click on “Find Your University”
2.  Type Berkeley City College and select it in the drop down menu
3. You will be redirected to BCC Library’s login screen - use first or last name as user name and student id number for the password
4. Complete the signup process by creating your Kanopy account.  
   Your account can be created using your Google or Facebook login, or can be done directly on Kanopy using your email address and password. Your password will need to be at least 6 characters. 
   Creating an account on Kanopy will allow you to save videos to your Watchlist to view later, create clips and playlists, and view through our mobile and TV apps.
5. After creating your account, you’ll receive a verification email in your inbox. Click on the link in this email to verify your email address.
6. You're ready to start watching! Browse or search for a film to begin.
